As of August 20, Tesla has started rolling out a new Apple Shortcuts integration via a recent mobile app update that will allow drivers to use Siri for certain car controls.

Not only does this mean certain car controls can be used remotely, but it will also help owners to automate them via Siri. The new update has been pushed out via Tesla’s iOS mobile app, with the car brand stating that it is now giving access to “vehicle controls and climate” through the Apple Shortcuts app.

Some of the new commands available are

• Lock and Unlock Tesla
• Start and Stop Preconditioning
• Enable and Disable Sentry Mode
• Enable and Disable Dog Mode

Sentry Mode refers to how a Tesla can use the vehicle’s external cameras and vehicle sensors to detect a security event while parked, while Dog Mode puts the vehicle into a dog-safe mode using air conditioning, so you can leave dogs inside briefly while out and about.

The Shortcuts app works by enabling Apple users to create personal shortcuts that integrate with popular apps, including the Tesla one.

These routines can be made up of multiple steps, with hundreds of existing examples available or the option to drag and drop your own shortcuts.

For example, using the new Tesla commands, you could now set your car to precondition to your ideal morning commute settings alongside other everyday morning actions, so your drive to work is always at its most comfortable.

Features like Sentry and Dog Mode can also now be officially automated remotely for greater peace of mind, without needing to physically return to your car.

Although Tesla owners could already do some of these tasks through other third-party apps, it’s now officially integrated with Apple’s own Tesla app.
